“Valle di pesca” in the Grado lagoon
The property is located on the island of “Valle Silvana”, a former fishing valley in the northern part of the Grado lagoon that is no longer used for production – east of the island of Le Cove and in the immediate vicinity of the famous Barbana Sanctuary. Access is exclusively by water via the picturesque Canale dei Moreri, which preserves the property’s special seclusion and exclusivity. Despite its remote location, the nearby tourist town of Grado, with its beautiful old town, offers an excellent infrastructure with all the facilities, services and leisure activities necessary for everyday life.
Valle Silvana was part of a typical lagoon area protected from the tides by dams and once used for extensive fish farming, known as ‘valliculture’ in Italian.
Today, the island is a natural habitat of extraordinary ecological importance – not only for a wide variety of fish species, but also as a refuge for numerous rare bird species. A small hut, which was used to store former fishing equipment, still bears witness to its original use.
The ‘Valli di pesca’ fishing valleys are historically significant water landscapes with high ecological value. Today, many of these areas are used for nature conservation and provide valuable refuges for numerous animal and plant species.
